Corporate Responsibility
An approach that takes into account the various aspects of responsibility lies at the heart of our brewery. Our work on responsibility encompasses environmental, social and economic responsibility.
Environmental responsibility
Nokian Panimo’s strives to operate ethically towards both society and the environment. Where possible, we have focused on environmentally friendly solutions in our energy procurement; for example, the electricity we purchase is sourced from 100 % carbon-neutral production. Heat recovery has been developed with both economic and environmental considerations in mind.
The environmental impact of beer production is minimal compared with other industries. The spent grain produced as a by-product of beer production is used as animal feed. The carbon dioxide we use is produced in an environmentally responsible manner and is carbon-offset. We also source local raw materials whenever their quality, competitiveness and availability meet the criteria set for them.
In our packaging, we focus on using environmentally friendly materials and, for example, avoid the use of plastics wherever possible. The recycling of aluminium cans used for consumer packaging is well organised in Finland, and the return rate for cans is 98 %, which is the highest of all packaging types. Manufacturing new cans from recycled aluminium requires only around 5 per cent of the energy used in the initial manufacturing process. (Palpa)
We are proud of our Finnish heritage and, to communicate this to the wider world, we have added the Avainlippuor the ‘Hyvää Suomesta’ logo to our packaging as a sign of our support for domestic raw materials and Finnish labour.
We are constantly developing our operations so that we can reduce our environmental impact and improve the resource efficiency of our production.
Social responsibility
We value our staff, as evidenced by our long-term employment relationships. We all know each other, and everyone’s views are taken into account. We encourage our staff to develop a wide range of skills and provide them with regular training.
As a small brewery, we have focused on building long-term local partnerships with various associations and organisations in the Pirkanmaa region.
Non-discrimination, equality, wellbeing at work, health and safety, and good leadership are at the heart of our brewery operations.
Financial responsibility
We are a growing, developing and profitable company, and we contribute to society’s prosperity through tax revenue and job creation. During the 2024 financial year, the company paid €8.9 million in separate taxes and production levies and employed an average of 41 people.
We work closely with our industry partners, such as the Finnish Craft Brewers’ Association, the Finnish Food and Drink Industries’ Federation, the Pro Luomu organisation, the Master Brewers’ Association, Suomen Palautuspakkaus Oy and the Ekopullo Association.
