Our work on responsibility encompasses environmental, social and economic responsibility.

Environmental responsibility

Nokian Panimo Oy develops its operations with their impact on society and the environment in mind. In our operations, we comply with applicable legislation and follow responsible operating principles.

In 2026, the origin of the electricity we purchase has been verified with guarantees of origin, and the electricity has been generated using carbon dioxide emission-free production methods. We recover the heat generated in our production and put it to use.

The spent grain produced as a by-product of beer production is supplied for use as animal feed, so that this by-product of the brewing process can be reused. Where possible, we also source raw materials from Finnish and local suppliers.

The aluminium cans we use as consumer packaging can be returned through the deposit return system for beverage packaging. In Finland, the return rate for cans is over 90% (Palpa, 2026). Manufacturing new cans from recycled aluminium requires only around 5% of the energy used in the initial manufacturing process (Palpa, 2026).

We are proud of our Finnish heritage and, to communicate this to the wider world, we have added the Association for Finnish Work’s Avainlippu (Key Flag) symbol or the ‘Hyvää Suomesta’ logo to our packaging as a sign of our support for domestic raw materials and Finnish labour.

Nokian Panimo’s greenhouse gas emission reduction targets have been approved through the Science Based Targets initiative’s validation process. We are committed to reducing our Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by 2030 from a 2024 baseline. We are also committed to measuring and reducing our Scope 3 emissions.

Social responsibility

We value our staff, as evidenced by our long-term employment relationships. We all know each other, and everyone’s views are taken into account. We encourage our staff to develop a wide range of skills and provide them with regular training.

As a small brewery, we have focused on building long-term local partnerships with various associations and organisations in the Pirkanmaa region.

Non-discrimination, equality, wellbeing at work, health and safety, and good leadership are at the heart of our brewery operations.

Financial responsibility

We are a growing, developing and profitable company, and we contribute to society’s prosperity through tax revenue and job creation. During the 2024 financial year, the company paid €8.9 million in separate taxes and production levies and employed an average of 41 people.

We work closely with our industry partners, such as the Finnish Craft Brewers’ Association, the Finnish Food and Drink Industries’ Federation, the Pro Luomu organisation, the Master Brewers’ Association, Suomen Palautuspakkaus Oy and the Ekopullo Association.
